Chengdu Tourist Train to Xinjiang – 16-Day Tour
The planned itinerary is for reference only. The departure date, stops, duration, route and other details of the tourist special train shall be subject to the final official passenger scheduling order issued by railway authorities. In the event of changes to the train operation plan, reasonable adjustments will be made to travel times, visiting sequences, dining and accommodation arrangements, etc., to ensure that tourists’ standard rights and interests are not compromised. Day 2
- The train travels along the Lanzhou–Xinjiang Railway, the first railway line into Xinjiang. You will enjoy the vast Gobi Desert, towering snow-capped mountains and the magnificent wilderness scenery unique to Northwest China.

Day 3
- Warmly greeted upon arrival in Turpan.
- Visit Karez Well System (approx. 60 minutes) A special irrigation system unique to Xinjiang, known as one of China’s Three Great Ancient Projects alongside the Great Wall and the Grand Canal.
- Visit Flaming Mountain (approx. 60 minutes) See China’s largest thermometer, experience the extreme surface heat, and enjoy rich Journey to the West culture.
- After the tour, board Chengdu Hao bound for Kashgar.

Day 5
- Visit Baisha Mountain & Baisha Lake (altitude ~3,300m, approx. 40 minutes) A pristine landscape of blue sky, white clouds, snow mountains, lakes and sand mountains, with the Kongur Tagh Peaks standing opposite. This is the legendary Liusha River described in Journey to the West.
- Visit Karakul Lake (approx. 1 hour drive, altitude ~3,600m, approx. 40 minutes) “Karakul” means “black sea”. The lake is 30 meters deep and covers 10 km², a rare high-altitude lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks, including three famous peaks over 7,000m: Kongur Tagh (7,719m), Kongur Tiube (7,530m) and Muztagh Ata (7,546m).
- Return to Kashgar and check into the hotel.

Day 6
- Visit Id Kah Mosque (approx. 60 minutes) One of China’s most famous Islamic mosques, first built in 1442, a masterpiece of Uyghur architectural art with strong ethnic and religious features.
- Visit Gaotai Folk Houses (approx. 60 minutes) A Uyghur residential area on a 40m-high loess cliff over 800m long, with a history of 600 years. You may try handcrafts such as 【pottery making】 or 【block printing】 and wander through the restored ancient dwellings.
- After dinner, proceed to Kashgar Station and board Chengdu Hao bound for Kuqa.

Day 7
- Visit Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon (approx. 1.5 hours drive, approx. 60 minutes) Named one of China’s Top Ten Most Beautiful Canyons, located on the southern slope of the Tianshan Mountains in an arid inland area with fine sand and clear springs.
- Transfer to exclusive vehicles to cross the Southern Section of Duku Highway From Tianshan Grand Canyon to Bayanbulak (approx. 190km, sightseeing drive approx. 3.5 hours). Enjoy views of the Small and Big Dragon Lakes, Tianshan snow mountains, and photo stops at Tielimaiti Daban.
- Visit Bayanbulak · Swan Lake Scenic Area (approx. 180 minutes) China’s second-largest grassland, surrounded by snow peaks, with lush water and grass. It is home to China’s only national swan nature reserve. Enjoy flocks of swans and terns, and the stunning sunset over the Nine Turns and Eighteen Bends.
- Check into a hotel in Bayanbulak in the evening.

- Visit Nalati Grassland (approx. 300 minutes) A national 5A-level scenic area known as one of the four great grasslands of Eurasia and praised as “Jiangnan beyond the Great Wall”. Enjoy springs, streams, pine trees, yurts, and flocks of cattle and sheep, while experiencing authentic Kazakh folk customs.
- Check into a hotel inside Nalati Scenic Area in the evening.

- Travel to Yining City (approx. 1.5 hours drive) and visit Six Star Street. A historic neighborhood famous for its unique hexagonal layout, home to multiple ethnic groups including Han, Kazakh, Hui, Uyghur, Russian and Tatar.

Day 10
- Visit Sayram Lake (approx. 2.5 hours drive, approx. 180 minutes) Historically known as the “Western Pure Sea” and hailed as “the last tear of the Atlantic Ocean”. It is Xinjiang’s highest and largest alpine cold-water lake and a national 5A-level scenic area, with clear blue water, blooming flowers and snow-capped mountains in the distance.
- Then proceed to Yining Station or Jinghe South Station and board Chengdu Hao bound for Beitun.

Day 11
- Arrive at Hemu Scenic Area, check in inside the scenic area and explore (approx. 300 minutes). Transfer to scenic shuttle bus, view the Ertix River (China’s only river flowing north to the Arctic Ocean), visit China’s largest birch forest, Hemu River wrapped in mist, Hemu Valley, Jiadengyu alpine grassland, Hemu River wooden bridge, and the Tuwa village with wooden houses.

- Arrive at Kanas Scenic Area, check in inside the scenic area and explore (approx. 300 minutes). Known as “the last pure land on Earth”, “God’s Back Garden” and “Fairy’s Private Land”. Enjoy the combination of northern grandeur and southern elegance. Walk along the wooden paths to view Moon Bay, Fairy Bay and Wolong Bay.
- Experience the unique Kanas Boat Tour for panoramic views of the lake and mountains.
- Stay inside Kanas Scenic Area in the evening.

Take the scenic shuttle bus to view Stone Gate Line, West Mountain Pine View, Longtan Reflecting Moon, Golden Needle Fixing the Sea, and overlook the majestic Bogda Peak.
- Return to Urumqi (approx. 1 hour drive). After dinner, check into the hotel.

Seat & Cabin Configuration Overview
- Five-Cabin Carriage (Leisure Residence): Each carriage features 5 cabins, with each cabin measuring 8 m². All cabins are smart-controlled twin rooms, with each bed measuring 75 cm × 200 cm.
- Four-Cabin Carriage (Poetic Residence): Each carriage contains 4 cabins, each measuring 10 m². Among them, twin rooms (bed size: 75 cm × 200 cm), and king-bed rooms (bed size: 180 cm × 200 cm). Each cabin includes a separate sofa, which can be converted into a single bed (maximum extended size approximately 175 cm × 50 cm).
Both cabin types are equipped with private en-suite bathrooms, a mini bar, a dedicated wardrobe area, international premium-brand toiletries, and a smart home control system.
- Due to the cross-regional nature of travel, tourists agree that the organizer may entrust reception services to qualified local operators. Details of entrusted agencies are in the contract annex.
- “On-board healthcare” refers to qualified doctors and nurses with rich clinical experience accompanying the train to assist guests.
Frequently Asked Questions (Part 1)
- How much does it cost for 1 adult with 2 children? If one room is arranged for both on-train accommodation and ground hotel accommodation, 1 adult + 1 child will be charged at the adult rate, and the second child will be charged at the child rate. Child service includes: train meals, tickets & shuttle buses, coach fare, meals, tour guide & driver service. Child service excludes: train berth, hotel bed, and hotel breakfast.
- How much does it cost for 2 adults with 1 child? If one room is arranged for both on-train accommodation and ground hotel accommodation, the 2 adults will be charged at the adult rate, and the child will be charged at the child rate. Child service includes: train meals, tickets & shuttle buses, coach fare, meals, tour guide & driver service. Child service excludes: train berth, hotel bed, and hotel breakfast.
- How much does it cost for 3 adults with 1 child?
- If 2 rooms are arranged for both on-train and ground accommodation, the total price is charged for 4 adults.
- If you do not mind limited space (1 train room + 2 ground hotel rooms), the price will be calculated as: 2 adult rates + 1 third-person rate + room supplement + child rate. Note: For this arrangement, we recommend the “Poetic Residence” cabin. The “Leisure Residence” is smaller and has no sofa bed.
- What is included in the child rate? For children 12 years old and under:
- Included: train meals, scenic area tickets & shuttle buses, ground coach fare, meals, driver & guide service.
- Excluded: train berth, hotel bed, hotel breakfast. Hotel breakfast for children is either free or paid on-site according to each hotel’s height policy.
- What is included in the adult rate? Included: train accommodation, ground hotels, all meals (on-train and local), scenic area tickets, ground coach service, tour guide service. Also included: two pick-up/drop-off services + two nights of high-end hotels (Ctrip 5-diamond or equivalent) at the start and end of the trip. All-inclusive, pure private tour, zero optional extras, zero shopping.
- What is the group size? What vehicle is used on land?
- Group size: approx. 18–20 people (excluding children without train berths).
- Ground transport: priority use of 2+1 luxury coaches. If unavailable due to local conditions, newer coaches with approx. 30% empty seat ratio will be provided.
- Can foreign guests join? Is there an extra charge? Foreign guests, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents are accepted on the same itinerary.
- May departures: same itinerary as domestic guests, no extra fee.
- June–September departures: foreign passport holders cannot visit the middle-south section of Duku Highway + Bayanbulak. Arrangements will be finalized after 2025 flight/train schedules are confirmed.
Three possible arrangements:- Fly from Kuche to Nalati to rejoin the group (most ideal).
- Take the train from Kuche to Kuitun, then transfer to Nalati and proceed to Yili (may arrive late).
- Take the train directly from Kuche to Yili, with Nalati replaced by nearby Yili attractions (remaining itinerary unchanged).
Surcharge: CNY 1,000 per person for options 1 and 2. No surcharge for option 3 (surcharge will be refunded). - Age restrictions for passengers
- 65–74: accepted if in good health and sign the Elderly Tourist Participation Statement.
- 75–79: accepted if in good health, sign the statement, and be accompanied by a family member under 75.
- 80 and above: unable to accommodate, thank you for your understanding.
- Difference between 4-person “Poetic Residence” and 5-person “Leisure Residence” cabins Main differences: room size and viewing sofa.

- Can dishonest persons (judicially restricted) join? This tourist train is registered in the 12306 system as unassigned hard-seat tickets, with no individual passenger restrictions. Hotels and tickets are booked as a group, so personal information is not pre-entered. If a guest cannot check in due to personal status, we will assist in arranging alternative accommodation but bear no liability for breach of contract. No travel restrictions for dishonest persons have been found recently; please consult the enforcing court for details.
- Itinerary difference between Poetic Residence and Leisure Residence The itinerary is identical. Guests in different cabin types may join the same group.
- Can meals be ordered separately on the train? All meals are included on the Chengdu Train, offering Sichuan, Cantonese, Western cuisine, etc. A reference menu is provided before departure, prepared by a professional chef team. If you wish to adjust dishes due to taste preferences, please communicate with the on-board steward, and we will accommodate requests where possible.
- Is the deposit refundable if the booking is cancelled? As this is a chartered tourist train, we must pay performance guarantees to railway authorities and hotel deposits in advance. Deposits are non-refundable for cancellations due to personal reasons.
- Name changes are free up to 3 days before departure.
- Full balance must be paid 30 days before departure.
